When it comes to Land Rover service, there’s no team like Land Rover Asheville. In addition to servicing your vehicle to ensure optimal safety and care, we’re also the team you can trust for essential information on car maintenance. Learn about how to jump-start your battery with support from our experts.
Set the Vehicles Up
To start, you want to bring the donor vehicle close to the car with the dead battery so that the jumper cables will be able to easily stretch between the two. Open the hoods and locate the batteries, then double-check that the donor vehicle is off.
Attach the Red Clamps
You’re going to begin by attaching the positive clamps on the battery. Attach the red clamp to the positive terminal on the vehicle with the dead battery first. Once it’s in place, you’ll want to attach the red clamp to the positive terminal on the donor vehicle.
Attach the Black Clamps
Next, you’ll be attaching the negative clamps. Attach the black clamp to the negative terminal on the donor vehicle. After that, you’ll want to find an unpainted section of metal on the vehicle with a dead battery that isn’t too close to the engine. Attach the black clamp there, and never to the negative terminal.
Start the Vehicle
Once the cables are attached, you’ll start the donor vehicle. Allow it to run for a few minutes before trying to turn over the vehicle with the dead battery. If it doesn’t work right away, you’ll want to try again after charging for a few more minutes. Once it starts up, keep your engine running or drive your vehicle for about 15 minutes before turning your car off to make sure the battery holds the charge. If the vehicle still won’t start, you may need a new battery. Bring your Land Rover vehicle to our shop and we’ll take care of the rest.
